BFD 2 comeswith 55 GB sample library recorded at famous Air Studios in London. The componentsof drum kits have up to 96 levels of velocity layers. BFD 2 comes with several alreadyset-up ready to use drum kits, however you are able to set up 10, 18 or 32piece kits using any available drum kit components.

BFD 2comes with about 5000 stylistically different patterns. These are MIDI filesthat are very likely to fit your needs and provide with the groove your musicaltrack needs. However BFD 2’s Groove Editing is just another great thing I lovein this software. BFD 2 lets you make your own grooves. It’s easy, editing andcreating is intuitive and you get realistic results. Native Instruments decided to make a holiday giftfor musicians and released SKANNER which is a free virtual synthesizer. StephanSchmitt is the creator of SKANNER. Those who do not already know, StephanSchmitt is the father of REAKTOR perhaps the most well-known and powerfulvirtual synthesizer available. SKANNER, which is based on unique synthesisarchitecture, can be used with the free REAKTOR 5 PLAYER. So that it is ReallyFree.

I have just had my first touch with SKANNER. I’dsay it is wonderful especially for its price (0). Although there is quitecomplicated synthesis mechanism built in the software, it is very convenientand user-friendly, so that amateur musicians can use it as well asprofessionals. In fact it has two interfaces: Panel A – which displays justfour macro controls so that you can control the synth easily by just being intouch with those controls. It should be mentioned that each control isinterlinked with multiple internal parameters, so even a subtle tweak can havegreat impact on the final sound you get. Panel B – is more complicated versionof the interface as it is for professionals – for those who want to dig deeperinto the SKANNER’s architecture. In factSKANNER is a wonderful mix of a synthesizer and a sampler. It comes with twooscillators which are used to scan (or SKAN) a sample. At higher frequenciesyou get oscillators being shaped by the sample waveform as the dominant forcewhile at low frequencies you get scratch sound produced from the sample beingread back and forth. What you get are the sounds dirty and raw and highlyunpredictable.

Versatile Preset Morpher is another thing inthe creative arsenal of SKANNER. You can get unique and unusual sounds by morphingbetween eight different snapshots. There are controls for LFO modulation andspeed of morphing.

It was back in 2007 when I had my first experience with Reason. It wasversion 4.0. I remember I was just soexcited when trying out Reason 6 two days ago as I was when I tried out Reason4.0 for the first time in 2007. Reason 6 was released on the 30^th ofSeptember 2011.

For those who do not know, Reason is a wonderful music recording softwarethat combines samplers, hardware synthesizers, sequencers, signal processorsand mixers. Reason’s flexibility has always been a point of admiration for me.Its components can be freely interconnected in a needed manner and you can useReason either as a complete virtual studio for recording or as a collection ofvirtual instruments which can be used to play and record in other musicrecording software.

The first thing I noticed about Reason 6 is that it has grown muchbigger. It has more features: more sounds, more effects, more abilities, moreof almost everything I loved about Reason.

Reason 6 now comes with modeled mixing console, with built-in EQ,dynamics and advanced routing. I enjoyed it much. It really gives a possibilityto get studio grade quality mixing. I also tried out the “radio ready” masterbus compressor to give my mixing an extra punch.

Puveriser is another new feature offered by Reason 6. I used it to testhow could it put dirty distortion, crunchy compression, flexible modulation anda multimode filter in a single effect. The result I got was satisfying. I thinkthis new feature makes Reason 6 even reacher.

The Echo – This new feature is what I loved most of all from Reason 6! Inthis playable performance effect the best of modern delays mixes with theorganic sounds of old school tape machines and analog circuitry.

Alligator is another new feature offered by Reason 6. It is extremelyuseful for amateur musicians. It can easily turn bland pads into rhythmictextures, make blockrocking breaks from boring beats and twist loops radically.It is great both for being easy to use and providing quality results.

Neptune is incredibly interesting new feature from Reason 6.Unfortunately I have not yet had enough experience with it to thoroughlyevaluate its possibilities, however I like how it can turn the harmonies playedon MIDI keyboard into instant backing vocals. In fact it is a pitch correctionand voice synth tool.

With Reason 6 audio recording has become even easier. This new version ofReason comes with rock solid audio recording and unlimited hard disk tracks.

Reason 6’s famous feature has always been non-destructive time stretch.This means that you can record your track at any tempo, then change the tempoand the track can fit the new tempo without damaging. It was the first featureI tried out two days ago, I wanted to see whether it has even improved or not.I found out that mostly it is the same as it has been in the previous version,but Reason 6 now has non-destructive audio transpose! That is just wonderful!You can record at first and then change the key whenever you like. It isincredibly easy!

Reason 6’s Recording Meter lets you tune your guitar.

Two days ago I had a wonderfulopportunity to try out the new MASCHINE MIKRO. This amazing fusion of hardwareand software really inspired me. Native Instruments still follows its slogan:The Future of Sound. Now I can say that MASCHINE MIKRO is just another steptowards the future of sound. Earlier I dedicated the post to the new MASCHINE.MASCHINE MIKRO is even more perfect than that version of MASCHINE since itgives extra control on your music recording software.

Maschine Mikro consists of the portablehardware controller which is fully integrated with the good old MASCHINESOFTWARE. The controller is just amazing. I had all the desired hands-onworkflow as MASCHINE MIKRO let me to control almost all the software functionsvia the controller. The thing I like most with Native Instruments’ products isthat they always work in an intuitive way. It was my first encounter withMASCHINE MIKRO but I could explore all the grooves and rhythms in a way Idesired. When I receivedthe information that TRAKTOR PRO 2 had been released, I remember my anxiety to try out its new features. Forthose who do not already know, TRAKTOR is the most renowned, DJ program thatlets its users mix out of box, create mixes that leave the previous boundariesfar away.

Perhaps I am too late writing this post, but unfortunately til yesterday I had been too busy with my exams to write a post on my blog. However late I may be, I just could not let an amazing Google Logo in honor of Les Paul's birthday pass without being reviewed at MusicRecordingSoftware.Blogspot.Com

Last few Google's logos have been exceptionally imaginative. Logo in honor of Martha Graham - one of the most amazing choreographers is its one of the best examples.However it was not until Google Guitar logo that I started spending more than an hour interacting with Google logo. Ithink it does its job perfectly. The design of sample decks is reallyinnovative. Most of the control over software is provided by two clearlylaid-out deck control sections and two effect units which can be assigned toany of four software decks. I can not do without mentioning electomagnetic jogwheels the quality of responsivity of which is really surprising. The controllerlayout with its rotary knobs create all the comfort and a bit more a DJ mayneed.

Well, what about4 channel mixer. At the first look it really seems not to be different fromnormal 4 channel mixers with their normal features, of course if we do not takein consideration that it is part of unique DJ performance system. However whatmakes this 4 channel mixer surprising is its wonderful design which has beenelaborated by famous DJs. This 4 channel mixer makes it easy to connect otherDJ performance gear like CDJ players, turntables, microphone etc. In the 4 channelmixer you can also find inovative loop recorder. This feature works like afifth deck, which adds an extra layer to your mix by recording and loopingaudio while mixing. Convenience is provided by the optional foot controllerwhich can start loop recorder, if you are doing some advanced scratching andboth your hands are busy.

The audiointerface is another wonderful feature of TRAKTOR KONTROL S4. I needed thisaudio card to be itegrated in the system so much for all those times when I hadbeen using external sound cards. This audio interface has the right to be namedas the successor of Native Instruments high quality audio cards. It providesall the clarity, power and dynamic range a modern DJ may need for creatingwonderful mixes using external CDJ players and turntables, effects, microphonesand various MIDI gear.

TRAKTOR PRO S4could well be the theme of another, separate article. This software is based onTRAKTOR PRO. It was developed to be fully compatible, to create synergy withTRAKTOR KONTROL S4. All the new features that are introduced by TRAKTOR PRO S4are designed to help its user to take the full advantage of TRAKTOR KONTROL S4.Oh, and I almost forgot to mention premum ready-made loops that can be combinedinstantly into the mix.

The Mouth is a completely unique way toexpress your creative musical ideas. Well, personally I was in great need ofsuch music recording software and may be that is why I am so excited about theMouth. This virtual instrument is the result of another colaboration of NativeInstruments and Tim Exile. The result of the first colaboration was The Finger –another wonderful software I am going to write a review of soon. I wanted toreview some of the basic features of The Mouth.

The first and may be the most important thingabout The Mouth is that it is incredibly easy to use. It creates all thecomfort I lacked so much on rehearsals or any kind of live performance. Icompletely agree with Tim Exile, who says that you do not have to be a KEYNIUSto be a GENIUS ! The Mouth is yet another validation of this phrase.

So what can you exactly do with this excitingsoftware. You can give any kind of audio to The Mouth whether you sing, givesome synthesizer sounds, or even drum loops and beatbox it does not matter, andyou are ready to go. When I said that you do not have to be a KEYNIUS I meantthat you really do not need to know how to play keyboards. All you need is justa midi keyboard and everything is fine. By using this software the pitch of thesound, you gave earlier to The Mouth, is detected and the software auto-tunesthe sound to a musical scale according to a notes received from a MIDI device.This means that you have just to press one key on your keyboard and the soundyou gave to The Mouth gets automatically tuned to the corresponding musicalscale. If you press another key on your MIDI device the sound willautomatically get tuned to another musical scale. This means that your soundwill always remain tuned.

I personally found the interface of The Mouthquite user friendly. At first it seemed a bit confusing, but after I saw thevideo, which comes right below this post (I advise you to see it), I understoodhow to use it in a comfortable manner.

Internally there are four generators that areresponsible for crafting the desired sound: Input, Synth, Bass and Vocoder. Themixer section is simple and there are 5 faders which are to manage everything. Themixer comes with a master FX section as well. That means that you can addadditional characteristics yo your sound. Each of the for generators contains numerous sounds (totally 118), whichcan be easily selected using the preset matrix.

8 performance control knobs are just anotherfeature I liked about The Mouth. These knobs alter both the amplitude and thesound at once. It makes shaping the sound, adding additional harmonies easier.

One last thing I want to mention in my TheMouth Review is its Beats Mode. This mode enables you to generate theexcitingly arppegiated sound of the drum patterns that you give to thesoftware.

This system provides various advantages - what you see is what you get, also when dealing with markers that are very close to each other, your possibilities are no longer restricted with a limited timing resolution.

And if you're warping multiple audio channels and flicking between them, it means you get an immediate visual reference as to how things are lining up, which wasn't easy when the timeline itself was being stretched.

This change provided massive uproad when Live 8 Beta version was released, but really only DJs should have reason to complain, as when it comes to warping electronic material on a steady beat, you're dealing with more mouse clicks and sub-menus, as Live tends to put in loads of transient markers you just don't need.

One suggestion I have is to offer a 'DJ mode', in which the default setting is to warp straight, placing just one transient marker right at the start. You can do something similar from within the Preferences, but there should be a front-panel solution.

The next huge leap forward comes with the long-requested Groove Engine. Using previous versions of Live you could only do basic quantising and swing, but the new version of this music recording software gives us possibility to have full-on groove quantisation based around a vast library of groove maps, including everything from the seminal MPC grooves beloved to this day by dance and hip-hop producers, and the quantise mappings of the legendary hip-hop machine that is E-MU's SP1200, right on through to a huge range of real drummers' feels.
